People living on the Isle of Wight have been asked to take the RSST summer squirrel perceptions survey, which is open to anyone who lives in a red squirrel county.  The Isle of Wight is one of only five counties in England still home to red squirrels.

NFU Countryside: Survey shines light on red squirrel populations PDF Print E-mail

People living in areas with red squirrel populations are sought to take part in RSST's second red squirrel perceptions survey.  The survey has the support of RSST ambassador Alan Titchmarsh, who has highlighted the important role that volunteer and local community participation plays in red squirrel conservation.

HRH The Prince of Wales has today launched a project which aims to bring back red squirrels to Cornwall.  The reintroduction of red squirrels could happen after the grey population is cleared from the Lizard and West Penwith areas.

The Cornwall Red Squirrel Project, run by RSST and supported by the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust, has announced that red squirrels may soon be reintroduced to Cornwall.  The project, which has the support of HRH The Prince of Wales, is to embark on a programme of grey squirrel control to clear The Lizard and West Penwith areas prior to the reintroduction of reds in a few years' time.
