“RED SQUIRRELS THROUGH THE SEASONS”

The Red Squirrel Survival Trust teams up with the Royal Photographic Society Nature Group for its photographic competition .

The Red Squirrel Survival Trust (RSST), which supports and delivers the conservation of the native Red Squirrel, is looking for beautiful images that capture the iconic endangered species through the four seasons. As with last year, an Overall Winner will be selected from the four winners of the Open categories (‘Spring’, ‘Summer’, ‘Autumn’ and ‘Winter’). This year sees the addition of a fifth category for photographs taken by children aged 14 and under.

Mark Henderson of RSST said: “We are delighted to be launching this competition for the second time. Last year’s inaugural competition attracted more than 250 charming squirrel shots from budding photographers the length and breadth of the UK – from the Scottish Highlands down to the Isle of Wight.

“We loved seeing so many incredible images from the talented Red Squirrel community and we’re really looking forward to this year’s entries. The new category for children is especially exciting as we see the next generation getting involved.”

“We are honoured this year, to work with the Royal Photographic Society Nature Group, whose code of ethical practice promotes the highest standards in wild life photography. Images of red squirrels play an important part in raising public awareness of their plight in the UK but it is vital that these images are created responsibly. The welfare of the subject is more important than the photograph.”
