The RSST’s 2025
RED SQUIRREL PHOTOGRAPHIC COMPETITION
Now open for entries.
The RSST is again looking for beautiful images that illustrate the iconic endangered species through the four seasons.
A winner will be selected in each of the Seasonal categories (‘Spring’, ‘Summer’, ‘Autumn’ and ‘Winter’). An Overall Winner will be chosen from those four Seasonal winners.
There is a Young Photographer category for those aged 18 and under.
A selection from the entries will be used for the RSST calendar.
Along with the winning images, many of the entries will be used throughout the year for awareness campaigns and as slide material for educational purposes, always with the photographer’s name credited.

Details of this year’s competition:
- Closing date: noon 31 March 2026.
- £50 will be awarded to each of the four winners in the Seasonal categories and the winner of the 18 and Under category.
- The Overall Winner will receive an additional £50 and the winning image will be used on the RSST jigsaw puzzle for the following year.
- Entrants must be from the UK.
- Entrants for the four Seasonal categories can submit up to three images in total, either for a single category or across any of the four categories (‘Spring’, ‘Summer’, ‘Autumn’ and ‘Winter’).
- Entrants for the 18 and Under category can submit up to two images in total.
- All entrants must follow the The Nature Photographers’ Code of Practice as set out by The Royal Photographic Society’s Nature Group (https://rps.org/media/1xcnsuga/the-nature-photographers-code-of-practice.pdf).
- The images can be in colour or black and white.
- Entrants must not be professional photographers. (For the purposes of this competition, a professional photographer is considered to be someone who makes more than half their annual income from the sale of their photographs).
- Images should be submitted via email/WeTransfer to rsstphoto@outlook.com from 1 Jan 2026.
